Why did our children stop writing?
By Syireen R
.
Because poor writing is nothing new but mostly because there is no real concern for it.
.
I have mentioned before that anybody can write but it takes quite a bit of work to think like a writer to make the writing matter.
.
I have also mentioned before that many who had honed the skills of language takes it for granted that speaking well equals to writing well too.
.
We have witnessed that this is not true.
.
So, why is there no REAL CONCERN about writing well?
.
It seems that we may have somewhat abandoned good literature and well thought out processes for quick gratifications that come in forms of aesthetics…either on print or animated.
.
We have come to be wowed by visuals and allow pretty to take over function.
.
So, we are okay to receive simplistic sentences and topsy turvy grammar void of punctuations. We won’t invest in quality writers and are okay with any writing for as long as something is written.
.
I now look at my children’s books in dismay. Whatever are they reading in school? Their literature is not classic but stuff that teachers recommend based on what teachers can digest and can understand.
.
It’s a sad reality but a REAL CONCERN to writers like me looking for likeminded folks to write together.
.
I am still working hard to put a book in my kids’ hands but every now and then I see them reading, I say bless you all who are writers in the world who are still forging forward strong. I thank you for your COURAGE and your REAL CONCERN.
.
Thank you for making writing and the writer matter.
.
Peaches & Pen will be running TULIS programs and looking forward to hearing from word lovers and enthusiasts to come together, so we can continue to produce amazing written pieces that matter.
.
It is a REAL CONCERN.
