I have been advocating the #powerofwords for years; not only because I am a lover of words but because I have experienced both being at the giving and receiving end of irresponsible/careless use of words.

I am also an advent student of words and I have every now and then repeat my message that “our choice of words, become us”.

Leaders, especially need to grasp the responsibility of uttering words to their audience. It is not only a reflection of your heart, but most importantly, it creates massive impact amongst those who believe in you.

My daughter was appointed the prefect of her school and I take great pride in her accomplishments. She also shared with me that she is also the head for her Netball Team and English Club.

…and then her choice of words sent ripples of shock into my body. She said “I now have the power…”

I asked her who told her that being a prefect gives her power and she said, ‘…my teacher’. Whatever are they teaching our children?

Here is what I understand about leadership. I shared it with her and I am sharing it with you.
.
It has nothing to do with POWER. Instead, it has everything to do with PERMISSION.

I want you to reflect on your relationship with those you follow. We only support, follow and do what leaders ask of us because we gave the leader the permission to lead us. It is and always be up to us to take action. So, if we refuse…leaders usually have no POWER over us because we make our CHOICES independently.

So, when we are the leader, we are only in that position because people around us agreed to believe in us; be aligned with our mission, vision and goals – to allow us to lead. So, when we ask and action is taken…the power is actually in their hands.

Make sense?

The choice of words are so powerful in this matter. Are you a leader with POWER or are you a leaders with PERMISSION?

Just look around you. World leaders. Corporate leaders. Ministers. Teachers. Parents.

Do they really have leadership?
By force (POWER)?
By will (PERMISSION)?

I read this saying on one of my friend’s status (Azma Abd Hamid) and thought to myself, how true!.
.
Peaches & Pen is an advocate for the #powerofwords and we have products that look directly into it because of how much we are such a lover and student of words.
.
For 2020, with Branding with Words, our Power of Words efforts look into i) Leadership and ii) Self-Development.
.
Why do we focus on words?
.
Because words are triggers and they leave massive impact on the speaker and receiver. Each word uttered, can be ignored but it is never forgotten.
.
Mentors, teachers and coaches have shown me that beneath every layer of experiences are expressions of words that explains the point of our learning – may it be of joy or pain.
.
Choices of words are merely a reflection of who we really are and the journey we have undertaken – the impact we have created at every point of our lives. Yesterday, I caught myself uttering a prayer out of anguish and I didn’t like how I sounded…but the words had taken wings and I will never know the repercussions of it.
.
Today, I consciously picked my words because I believe in its power. I wanted more positivity and I raised my game with words for it. It doesn’t need much magic…just an intention and it will fly a thousand miles.

Stories don’t matter, until it does.

People will tell you to keep the past in the past. It does tremendous justice to growth and healing when pain is left where it should be.

I have been told that the Point of Power is in the Present, and I believe. Many of my accomplishments were achieved for taking action at the moment opportunity opens.

I have experienced that second guessing myself sees me staring at opportunities close, simply in a state of paralysis from taking immediate action.

I have also experienced lost and betrayal. Deceit and injustice.

Sounds familiar?

I have so many stories that I don’t care to recall. It’s too shameful. Painful, Regretful…until someone comes and the stories that were poison to me becomes an antidote for her pain.

I have been seeking the universe for answers. Having loads of ‘why’ questions. Why would this happen to me? Why do I give to ingrates? Why don’t I get more support as much as I give?

Then the universe answers. “I never GIVE you MORE than you can HANDLE…because somewhere down the road, somebody else will gain strength from yours”.

After all…I did ASK to serve.

I guess now I understand what it means by “someone’s poison may be someone else’s medicine”.

By serving, I learned. Would you like to hear my stories?

I have been studying the following words:
1) Responsibility
2) Integrity
3) Accountability

I have been receiving feedback that go in circles, of which, these words get intertwined and create more confusion. I have also seen many who claim to put these words in practice and end up equally jumbled up in a twisted triangulated love affair with the words.

Over the weekend at Money & You, I received a distinction and now excited to put into practice:

1) Responsibility is NOT a burden or duty. It is human connection and being 100% present to the connection of humanity and what I have committed to honor. It is a state of being.

2) Integrity is being whole and complete. 100% honest to my truth and continuously upholding it in full view or absence of humanity.

3) Accountability is to keep track of my behavior to stay in integrity and responsible for the 100% success of humanity.

By definition, courage is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain etc – without fear.
.
Courage is also bravery that source its strength from the heart.
.
Everybody applauds courage. My question is “which one?”.
.
I have read keyboard warriors rant with powerful phrases and enrolling keywords that riles the audience. Then when there is action to be taken offline…many falters and cower in a corner. Conversations by these warriors becomes whispers like squeaking rats in the dark corners where the insignificant hides.
.
I have also seen strong leaders go against the grain, having multiple unsavoury words strewn their way and buckets of hatred sent piercing through our hearts via media, speech and various other media platforms to taint their reputation.
.
What is the truth behind Courage? Who is willing to truly embody this word?
.
I spoke about characters in “Devil wears Prada” the movie and highlighted the most hated character. The she boss, the bitch, the nasty and unwavering woman seen relentless and unforgiving. Such an amazing person we love to hate.
.
Yet, at the end of the movie, we recognize her as the rock…the reason another being blossoms and achieve breakthroughs.
.
So, we do know courage…don’t we?
.
The truth is, we all know the value of courage, but I invite you to #reflect on which ‘courage’ do we stand by? The BITCH who will go forth or the KEYBOARD WARRIOR (or those who speaks only behind closed doors) who cowers when push comes to shove?
.
Reality is a bitch…indeed a courageous space to live in.

I had the opportunity of speaking to a group of business owners about POWER.
.
I started the session with asking who likes POWER? Barely any hands went up. Then I asked, who is comfortable with POWER? Less hands went up and more facial reactions displayed uncertainties.
.
The room concurred that the word POWER, like many other words that comes with leadership has been associated with much negativity.
.
I asked them to own their POWER and many were unsure how.
.
So, I shared a principle I learned from Money & You – The Point of Power is in the Present.
.
While many glance over their shoulders to blame their past for the unsavoury present and others dream of a future that has not arrived – almost everyone is paralyzed and not paying attention to the current “Being” who is standing in the moment.
.
Letting go of the past is key. Being grateful for the gift of the moment is a bigger key. Planning for the future by focusing on NOW is taking action and owning your POWER to move forward and succeed.
.
In different context the principle will show up differently. But for the moment, I invite you to list 3 things that you are grateful for that is present in your life NOW.
.
What would that be?
.
MIne are:
1. Amazingly supportive and loving family
2. A great career rooted in my love for words
3. Health that allows me to be me
.
Reflect on yours. Journal them and say thank you that you have the POWER in you and have been so blessed to OWN your present.
.

I belong to several communities/groups/partnerships of writers and recently disturbed more than before with the growing trend of purpose behind published #words.
.
Sometimes I hear proposals and recommendations that is more for economic generation; ego building; business booster than the pure intention of #writers who #write with purpose.
.
I wanted to put on record what it means to be a #writer and what it is to just write by purging nonsensical words on paper. There is a huge gap of Truth between these two. It is rooted in Intention.
.
First,
.
It is not okay to write just because you have an ego. It is not okay that your ‘languaging’ is crude and you call it literature. It is not okay to have a book because you want the title ‘author’. Please don’t taint us writers who treasure our world that way.
.
Second,
.
Writing is probably the hardest thing for writers because fear grips our heart at the thought of failing our readers. There is no short cut to extending a piece of our heart; a slice of our experience; a whisper of our dreams and the abyss of our passion.
.
Third,
.
Our truth matters because our lives are learning experiences others can benefit. Be purposeful in adding the body of knowledge for our nation to be of greater beings that does more than worldly pursuits. Our words are triggers and is the most powerful weapon known to men…it does move mountains!
.
So, if you need to write, write with purpose…may it be for leisure, fantasy, lifestyle or business. Be weary that your word matters to the world who is receiving it. Make every word count.

Amongst Equals

Today I want to speak on business and relationship. How do we communicate amongst peers?

First, what are the expectations of CEOs when building relationship with other CEOs?

I’m putting it out there that all CEOs started from the bottom. Many have struggled through blood and tears to be where we are today.

Words are exchanged in confidence, in fear, in agony, in resignation but also in commitment, in encouragement and in motivation. Many would inspire each other through thick and thin to achieve goals.

I have witnessed friends who I have supported and received support in my years in business. Many have achieved success and arrived their destination.

So, here’s my question.

How do you communicate with your CEO friends that you grew together?

I say, as equals.

I am sharing because sometimes people forget. I am sharing because you don’t need to be a CEO to appreciate relationships. I am sharing because in our eyes…you are a friend.

Friendship ends when you stop calling and in your place is your secretary taking our appointments.

Peers don’t speak to your hand.

Reflection of today…we are always amongst peers.
